WHAT IS NDIS?

NDIS is the acronym for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It connects anyone with a disability to services in their community and supports over 500,000 Australians.

What can be included in NDIS supports?

The NDIS provides eligible people with funding to gain more time with family and friends, improve their independence, learn new skills, obtain employment or volunteer in their community with a goal to providing participants with an improved quality of life.

Supports can include:

  • Connections to doctors and other healthcare professionals
  • Access to community groups, sporting clubs, support groups
  • Access to libraries and schools

What are some types of supports that are funded by the NDIS?

Supports vary depending upon each individual participants needs and package, but can include assistance with:

  • Daily personal activities
  • Transport to enable participation in community and social activities as well as economic and daily life activities
  • Workplace supports to allow participants to successfully get a job or keep employment
  • Therapeutic supports including behaviour support
  • Assistance with household tasks to maintain and quality home environment
  • Assistance to become skilled in the use of personal aids of equipment
  • Home modification design and construction
  • Mobility equipment
  • Vehicle modifications
  • Accommodation

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ACCESS NDIS SUPPORT?

If you or the person you care for is between the ages of 7-65 years, a local NDIS area coordinator can assist you to understand the NDIS and apply and connect you with other government agencies and community supports. If your child is under 7 years of age, an early childhood partner can provide supports to children and advise if the NDIS is suitable for your child.
